One 60-day voyage circling the Land Down Under is being halted days after the fatal incident of an elderly woman who was stranded by the cruise liner on a isolated tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been hiking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the group for a rest. The ship departed without her and came back several hours later after the crew realised the lady was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt discovered her remains the next day.

Authorities are examining the event, alongside police and the state coroner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer said that passengers and personnel on the vessel were notified that the remainder of the journey had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and previous technical problems".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that guests would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the passengers via chartered flights".

Officials also published an updated statement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Commander" preventing any new passengers from boarding the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the liner in the port city upon its return.

The vessel initially left the coastal city on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the expedition at the moment of the senior passenger's death. Lizard Island was the opening port on the journey.

Family Reaction

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her family was "shocked and grieved that the vessel left the location after an scheduled outing without my mum".

In her statement, she described her parent as an "energetic elderly person" who was a member of a hiking club.

"Based on limited information we have been told, it appears that there was a failure of responsibility and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She continued that she desired the inquiry would be able to determine what "the organization should have undertaken that might have saved Mum's existence".

"We understand from the authorities that it was a very hot afternoon, and she became unwell on the mountain ascent," she stated.
